Product Description

New from Krups, the XP7260 with the Auto Cappuccino Kit will be the MOST COMPACT fully automatic espresso machine on the market. The XP7260 was designed to be simple to operate and easy to maintain. Coffee experts agree, the ideal process to achieve maximum flavor without over extraction is to grind and brew under high pressure within a short period of time. An automatic espresso machine combines all the necessary steps to brew a perfect espresso and simplifies the process. The XP7260 Compact Fully Automatic Espresso Machine is 30-50% smaller then most fully automatics available. Fully Automatic: With a simple touch of a button, the XP7260 grinds the beans and brews delicious espresso with ease. Small is better: Revolutionary technology exclusively from Krups provides the luxury of a fully automatic machine in a practical compact machine. By combining the thermoblock, brewing system and hydraulic jack into a single piece, Krups creates a fully automatic machine that is 30-50% smaller and highly efficient. The completely redesigned thermoblock is cast in aluminum and has stainless steel tubing to allow for a precise control of the water and temperature and optimal transfer of heat while reducing scaling and build up of mineral deposits. The stainless steel brewing chamber rests on top of the thermoblock allowing for a hot cup of coffee right from the first cup while ensuring a rich, full flavor with an excellent crema. User friendly Interface: The oversized digital display and intuitive controls are easy to use. The simple on screen instructions walk you through all the steps from set-up to brewing perfect espresso. Easy to read digital display and controls allows you to scroll through the on-screen menu and press the knob to make selections. Clear text and graphics are easy to follow. Choose whole beans or ground, your choice. Built in conical burr grinder holds up to 28 oz of whole beans.

"Not bad." 2010-05-28
By W. Kirkpatrick (Philadelphia, PA USA)
If you're in the market for a better espresso machine, this is one to consider. No, it won't pull "god shots" but it is really convenient and keeps the kitchen clean. It does better than any of the under $500 portafilter based machines I've experienced, so save yourself on the "upgrade cycle" and start with this one.

Grind: The ejected pucks are tightly packed and dry. The grind appears consistent and reasonably proper for espresso.

Heat: The weak point. It does pretty good on the lowest of it's 3 settings, starts out well but always ends the shot with some steam. Better temp. control for that "magic" 200F set-point would probably improve the results. Back-to-Back shots need just a minute for the machine to cool in between, else the second shot is pulled too hot.

Filters/Cleaning: The water filter is not required, I was worried about that. Way too much "chip'ed" crap out there these days. But, simply tell the machine it's not there and it's ok with that.

Power on until ready for first shot is about 1 minute. Timer will turn machine on automatically in the morning, if you want, and turn it off after you're gone.

Setting for "Espresso" and "Strong Espresso" (single/double shot). Adjustable water output in 0.1 oz increments (default is 1.7oz). My double portafilter basket holds more coffee, so "Strong" isn't so much (for my tastes) but I can just run 2 smaller shots into the cup.

Ok, so no grinding, measuring, tamping, nice clean kitchen, 1 minute wait vs. 1 hr for the likes of an E-61 group head to heat up. Not bad for a drinkable, though not "perfect" cup.

So skip the $500 and less portafilter stuff, start here. Or, go $500 and above and be willing to leave the machine hot, learn, and work the "correct" process for improved results.

"Best espresso machine" 2010-05-27
By M. Shocklee (Marina del Rey, Ca)
We have had this one for over a year and a half and came to buy another one for our other home. We have gone through a long list of espresso machines in the last 12 years from the $60 krups to the fancy Italian jobs. I am thrilled the price has come down since we bought the first XP7260. Knock on wood, but it hasn't missed a beat for an average of two cappuccinos a day for 1 1/2 years. Some of the other reviewers say that theirs require a cleaning tablet every two cups and a descaling every six cups. The manual suggests doing a (free) rinse once a week (45 seconds and no tablets) and a cleaning cycle every 350 cups (it will tell you when) with a cleaning tablet. It also will have you do a mandatory descaling about every 600 cycles depending on your water hardness and if you have a filter installed. All this is about the same preventative maintenance as all semi automatics. The coffee grinder is loud but only lasts for a few seconds.

The espresso that it makes is fantastic and well worth every penny spent. The auto frother actually works great and is not a gimmick like I was expecting, though it does need good cleaning. I would now hate to go back to making the steamed milk manually. The cleaning tablets etc... are all available on the Krup's website and very easy to order. Over all, this has been a great purchase even at the higher amount.

"Loving the espresso machine" 2010-05-03
By momma3 (dallas, TX USA)
It is so easy to make espresso's and cappuccino's. The cleaning process is also extremely easy. The size is small and compact and it won't take up a lot of counter space. The machine will pretty much tell you when you everything, when to clean it, when it needs water and so on.

"Very Happy" 2010-04-28
By Kevin Hill (Red Deer, Alberta, CA)
I am totally pleased with this unit and would recommend it. I use only distilled water so I never have to descale it. I love the fact that I can have a great coffee right away, or with a little extra work I can have a foamy milk coffee with honey and chocolate. Anyways I love it so far, if there is a downside I can't find it.

"I love/hate this machine" 2010-04-11
By Ronald L. Seale (Seattle)
I got this machine for xmas, 2009, and carefully followed the instructions. By the time we left for vacation Jan. 4, I had to take it in for repair. It is now April 11, and now I need to take it in for the FOURTH time. That's four times in three months, and we were gone for 1 month during that period.

The problems so far, beans stopped going into the grinder, the coffee flow just stopped, the onscreen display would not follow directions, and now the display will not allow the descaling process even though it gives a prompt to do so.

If that's not enough, the cost of maintenance supplies is exorbitant, e.g. filters are $20 and need to be changed every 1-2 months. Oh, and krupsusa does not carry all the maintenance products to support the machine. Nice.

Having said all that, the machine makes a great, nearly effortless latte or cappucino. When it works, that is.
